Bus 5B, 7, 27, 28. Mon-Sat 0930-0130.
This is a light and airy café-bar in the Carme, with a couple of battered sofas to relax on, a small but delicious menu of mainly vegetarian snacks (good pasta salads and hummus with pitta), and charming, friendly, Irish owners. It has a coin-operated internet terminal and also offers a wireless service if you are travelling with a laptop. |
ValenciaValencia write-up of The Lounge
The Lounge is - for a change - a perfectly integrated Irish bar that has managed to become truly cosmopolitan (that is neither excluding the Spaniards nor surrendering to them). It is in a league of its own as far as nightlife is concerned - being a fairly small and simple (but cosy) bar, it will not give you a full-on party, instead serving as a multi-faceted international communication hub in a low-key ambience. You are certain to meet a few travellers, a few integrated ex-pats and a few cosmopolitan-minded Spaniards, and the beer chat tends to be so homely and intimate that the night is over before you know it. The Lounge also often serves as the first stop for newly arrived - it is a place where you can meet people for advice, see a few ads, ask around for jobs or flats, use the internet and make local friends in language exchange. For most of the Valencia's foreigners the Lounge is their first home which they will one day inevitably leave but will visit every now and again. Plus it is the cheapest pint of beer in Carmen. |
